Here is the palak besan sabji which pair beautifully with proteins. It takes mere few minutes to cook and add green into your meal, even you don’t realise it.
Palak Besan sabji is made from spinach (palak) and gram flour (besan) with delightful spices. If you looking for delicious as nutritious dish, once you made you will consume regularly.
It start with sauteing cumin seeds, garlic, onion, and green chillies in oil. Then, add peas, tomatoes, and salt, and cook until softened. After, stir in coriander powder, chilli powder, turmeric powder, and crushed red chilli. Finally introduce main ingredient chopped spinach, gram flour, and water, and cook until the spinach wilts and the mixture thickens. That’s it. Palak besan sabji is ready.
Preparation
We have to prepare 300g of chopped spinach(palak), wash it properly under cold water to remove dirt. Discard the tough stems and chop the spinach into small pieces as seen in above image.
Fry cumin, garlic, onion & green chilli
First, heat 3 tsp oil in a pan and put cumin seeds into it. Allow them to sizzle for a few seconds until fragrant comes out.
Then, stir in 5-6 chopped garlic cloves, 1 finely chopped onion, and 2 finely chopped green chillies. Saute this mixture for approx 1 minute, stir occasionally, until the onions soften and gets brown colour.
This aromatic base will infuse flavor into the recipe.
Cook peas and tomatoes
It is optional, but if you want add you will get amazing taste. Add 1/2 cup of peas(matar), 2 chopped tomatoes, and 1 teaspoon salt and cook this mixture for 2 minutes, stirring gently as some intervals.
The peas will add a burst of sweetness & texture, while the tomatoes contribute a rich, tangy flavor.
Add spices: coriander (dhaniya) powder, chilli powder, Turmeric (haldi) powder & crushed red chilli
After all of this, time to add our amazing Indian spices. 1 tablespoon coriander powder (dhaniya powder), 1 tablespoon red chili powder, 1/2 teaspoon turmeric(haldi powder), and 1/2 teaspoon of crushed red chilies to the pan. Stir well and let it cook for 3-4 minutes.
Cook spinach (palak), gram flour (besan) in 3-4 tbsp water
Now add chopped palak (spinach), 4 teaspoons of besan (gram flour), and 3-4 tablespoons of water & stir well with gravy. Cover the pan and cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally.
The spinach will wilt and release it’s flavour & green color as well, while the gram flour(besan ) will thicken the mixture, creating a creamy texture gravy.
